Parent Overview Year 1

Please find below our Parent Overview detailing what our children in Year 1 are learning this week.

Curriculum area We are learning to…

Literacy   

 

In Literacy, we continue our topic ‘Southwater’s past’. This week we will learn about Mr and Mrs Grinstead, who owned the mill on Cripplegate Lane, that is now burnt down. We will also learn about suffix -er and -est and use that in our writing.  
Maths

This week in maths begin our learning on time, where we will start to look at before and after, the days of the week and the months of the year. 

Phonics and Handwriting  

Phonics: In phonics we will be looking at alphabetical order. 

Handwriting: Top exit joins oy and wh 

Wider Curriculum 

PSHE – To understand why some things have age restrictions. 

PE – We will continue practising for Sports Day 

Art: William Morris- Children will design a repeating pattern onto a polystyrene tile in the style of William Morris and will use colour to print their design.  

History : Learn about Victorian schools and how they are different to today. 

Orienteering/Geography : To introduce navigating between a series of controls.   

RE: Jewish symbols and practises

Thursday 25th June- Amberley Museum school trip

Friday 26th - PE clothes please

Monday 29th - Sports Morning - 9.15 to 10.45 - Families welcome to watch and join in!

Please note some of the learning will take place across more than one week and during some weeks the learning focus may not cover all curriculum areas.
