Literacy
|
In Literacy we will begin a new text ‘Blue’ by Britta Teckentrupp. This is a beautiful story about sadness and hope and the beauty of ‘friendship’. Blue lives in the darkest depths of the forest. He has long forgotten how to fly, sing and play. The other birds swoop and soar in the sky above him, the sun warming their feathers. But Blue never joins in. Until, one day, Yellow arrives. Step by step, Yellow reaches out to Blue. With patience and kindness. And little by little, everything changes... This week before we read the story, the children will have an image of the front cover. We will look closely at the front cover and make predictions about what we think might happen in the story. The children will then look closely at the character Blue and how his feelings change from the beginning to the end of the story. |
| Maths |
This week in maths we will be looking at a ‘whole’ and that it can be represented by a group of discrete objects. If some of the objects in the group are missing, it is not the whole group – it is part of the whole group. We will look at a whole group of objects can be composed of two or more parts. This can be represented as a part–part–whole ‘cherry’ diagram. The group can be split in many ways. The parts might look different; each part will be smaller than the whole group and the parts can be combined to make the whole group. |

Phonics and Handwriting |
Phonics: This week we will be recapping ‘igh’ and learning about ‘ie’ and ‘i-e’. We will practise applying these in our reading and writing. Handwriting: The zig zag monster family - z, v, w, x |
| Wider Curriculum |
Art – creating salt dough fruit and vegetables for Harvest festival Science – describing the properties of everyday materials RSHE – to understand how to solve problems with friends. RE – why a Church is an important place for Christians. Music – practising our Harvest songs. PE – combining movements / exploring running at different speeds. DT – designing and making a healthy sandwich for Bog Baby. |

We also believe in listening to your children and responding to their interests and ideas therefore all our planning is flexible. Please note some of the learning will take place across more than one week and during some weeks the learning focus may not cover all curriculum areas.
