Parent Hub
At The Southwater Infant Academy we encourage our children to recognise and use positive learning behaviours throughout everything they do. These are behaviours that are important in helping children to succeed, not just academically or in a school setting, but in all areas of their lives.
Our Learning Toys
At Southwater Infant Academy, our special learning toys help children understand and develop the important skills and attitudes needed for successful learning. Each character represents a key learning behaviour that we encourage every day in the classroom.
🦁 Leo Lion - Courage
Leo Lion reminds us to be brave learners. He encourages children to have a go, take risks, learn from mistakes and build confidence when trying something new.

🐝 Bertie Bee - Collaboration
Bertie Bee helps children learn the value of working together. He promotes listening, sharing ideas, taking turns and supporting others to achieve a common goal.

🦉 Oscar Owl - Communication
Oscar Owl teaches the importance of communication and kindness. Children learn to listen carefully, use polite words and actions, share their thoughts and celebrate the achievements of others.

🐢 Tammy Tortoise - Perseverance
Tammy Tortoise shows children that learning can sometimes be challenging, but with determination and effort they can keep going and achieve their goals. She encourages a 'not yet' mindset and reminds children never to give up.

🦄 Una Unicorn – Creativity
Una Unicorn inspires children to think creatively and use their imagination. She encourages curiosity, problem-solving and trying different approaches to create something new and exciting.
Together, our learning toys help children develop positive learning habits, build resilience and become confident, independent learners who are ready to embrace new challenges.

Parent Overviews
We also use Parent Overviews to guide those conversations at home regarding topics and key areas of learning. These are loaded each week for each year group and can be viewed here for EYFS, Yr1 & Yr2.
We hope you find our learning resources and overviews useful and, should you require any further information, please contact your class teacher.
