Medicines

Supporting your child's health and medical needs

As part of the academy's duty of care to your child, please inform a member of staff about any health issues that may affect your child during the school day.

What you need to tell us about:

  • Any medical conditions or health issues
  • Medical appointments during school time
  • Cases of infectious illness, such as chickenpox, measles, impetigo etc.
  • Any severe allergies your child has been diagnosed with, including the symptoms and what to do in an emergency

Children with sickness or diarrhoea must be kept at home for 48 hours after the last episode to prevent the spread of infection.

Medicines at school

The academy can make special arrangements for children who require medication during the school day, such as for asthma or other ongoing conditions.

We can administer prescribed antibiotics that need to be taken 4 times a day. If your child requires other prescribed medicines to be given during academy hours, please speak to the office to discuss what arrangements can be made.

What you need to do:

If your child requires medicine to be given at school, please:

  • Complete the consent form (available from the office or download below)
  • Bring the form along with your child's medication in the original box with the pharmacy sticker on
  • Speak to a member of staff about your child's specific needs

Children with severe allergies

If your child has a severe allergy (such as to food or insect stings), they should have an allergy action plan from their doctor. This explains what to do if they have an allergic reaction, including how to use their adrenaline device. Please provide us with a copy of this plan and ensure we have the necessary emergency medication in school.
