Please find below our Parent Overview detailing what our children in Year 2 are learning this week.
|We are learning to…
|his week in Literacy we are going to be writing instructions! We will making a banana bread then we will use statements and commands to write instructions telling our readers how to make a banana bread. We will also be using commas to write a list of the ingredients and tools we will use.
|In maths this week we are going to be looking at subtracting with 2 didit numbers. We will be taking a single digit number away then a multiple of ten away before combining them to subtract a 2 digit numbers. We will be learning what happens when we subtract a a 2digit number from a 2 digit number when the ones value is the same. This will prepare us for subtracting through the tens boundary.
Phonics and handwriting
Phonics - This week we will be consolidating our learning on the sounds we have been looking at this term.
Handwriting – This term in handwriting we are practising our bottom to e joins; ge ie pe se ue
Science – LO: Describe the importance for humans of eating the right amounts of different types of food.
PSHE – l.O: To judge whether a website is safe or not.
RE – LO: To be able to recall why Easter is important to Christians.
P.E- LO: To develop pupils' execution of an underarm throw and to extend their understanding of why we need to be accurate when we throw.
Geography – LO: Compare tropical and temperate climates and the crops that grow there
Computing - L.O: To understand that different objects have different properties.
D.T - LO: To use cooking utensils and ingredients to make a banana bread.
INSET day -Monday 19th February
Fairtrade Fortnight - This week we will be celebrating Fairtrade fortnight!
We will learn about Fairtrade and why it is important to support Fairtrade. We will learn about ways to identify Fairtrade items and will explore where they come from and their journey to our shops.
We will create be painting with coffee and we’ll be learning about where coffee is grown.
We will also use Fairtrade products to bake cakes to raise money for Fairtrade awareness.
We will also create lots of Fairtrade art and decorations across the week.
Please note this is a basic overview of the planning for this week. It is impossible to cover in this outline all the learning that takes place during a week! We also believe in listening to your children and responding to their interests and ideas therefore all our planning is flexible. Please note some of the learning will take place across more than one week and during some weeks the learning focus may not cover all curriculum areas.
