Please find below Parent Overview regarding what children in the Early Years Foundation Stage are learning this week.

Curriculum Area We are learning to...
Communication & Language 
  • Listen carefully at carpet time 

  • Take our turn to speak in circle time 

  • share our thoughts and ideas during class discussions  

Literacy
  • Revise the phonic sounds we have learnt – singing our Song of Sounds 1 & 2! 

  • segment and blend some simple words containing 3 letter consonant blends – spr, scr, str, spl 

  • Write Easter cards 

  • Practice reading and spelling our word house words – focus on spelling word house 7 – they, love, you, your 

Mathematics 
  • Recap addition and subtraction  

  • Use the part-part-whole model to add/subtract numbers  

Understanding the world 
  • Listen to a real-life Firefighter and learn about their tools and what they do to keep us safe! 

  • Understand why Christians celebrate Easter 

  • What the Holi Festival is and why it is celebrated 

  • Discuss similarities and differences between Easter and Holi 

Expressive arts and design
  • Self-initiated art and creative work. 

  • Easter crafts and cards 

Physical Development 
  • Improve our balance skills, balancing in pairs. 

  • Develop our finger strength and fine motor skills with a range of activities – cutting, chasing, threading, pegging.  

Personal, social and emotional development 
  • share our ideas to a large group  

  • Practice sharing and turn taking during games in a larger group 

 

Please note this is a basic overview of the planning for this week. It is impossible to cover in this outline all the learning that takes place during a week!  We also believe in listening to your children and responding to their interests and ideas therefore all our planning is flexible. Please note some of the learning will take place across more than one week and during some weeks the learning focus may not cover all curriculum areas.
