Enquiry Based Learning

“Tell me and I forget, show me and I remember, involve me and I understand”

Impact of Enquiry Based Learning

At The Southwater Infant Academy children learn in a very practical way, pursuing interest through exploration and discovery therefore making their learning more meaningul and memorable.

Enquiry based learning gives involvement that leads to understanding.  Involvement in learning means possession of skills and attitudes that allow you to find resolutions to questions while you learn new knowledge.

Importance of Enquiry

Memorising facts and information is not the most important skill in today’s world.  Facts change and information is readily available – what’s needed is applying transferrable skills.

The Enquiry Approach

This approach is more child centred with the teacher as a facilitator of learning.  There is more emphasis on “how we come to know” and less on “what we know”.  The more interested and engaged children are by a topic or theme, the easier it will be for them to construct in depth knowledge of it.  Enquiry based learning prepares for life long learning.
